The dream and the nightmare
For years I worked on radio as a hobby. I represented my school on charity radio, worked on local radio, worked on national radio, all as a hobby. When people asked why, I simply said, It’s a hobby, something I’m passionate about and I know the skills will help me In other areas of life one day.
May 7th 2023, and I have the horrendous news to break to the world, to the industry, that with deep sadness Dad has passed away. Struggling to hold it together, I try to process the happenings of the last year, the last week, the last day. Dad wasn’t just my Dad, but my work mate, my teacher, my pal, also, the one that I worked really hard to be as good as, be better than. Obviously, In my emotional state at the time, fuelled with stress, anxiety, hurt, pain, loss, grief, I struggle to see. My days as I know it have changed in the blink of an eye, and that I witnessed for myself.
We stuck in as a family, but on my own, I got stuck into work, Knowing the one thing that would help get me through would be doing my Dad proud. It’s almost Dads birthday, I’ve already had my first birthday without him, my first Christmas without sharing the Christmas pudding together but this one will be a hard one.
The one thing that’s helped throughout all of this is Dad, my beliefs In what happens after, my beliefs in where he is now, and my passion for radio.
For years I said I wanted to start a podcast for the welding industry. Something to give people a voice, somewhere for people to talk. Well, it happened, and what a response we have had.
The Weld Like Bazza Podcast has two main focuses. Telling stories about my Dad, still regarded as one of the very best in the industry, and two, let people have a voice, a place to chat without ego or attitude.
Already we have episodes that have ranked #1 on all current platforms, and guests knocking on the door for that coffee and a chat.
